Ashley Furniture HomeStore has selected McCann New York as the chain’s new lead strategic, creative and social agency, the company confirmed The Interpublic Group agency pitched the account along with corporate sibling Compass Point Media, a unit of Campbell Mithun, which added Ashley’s media planning. Media buying will remain at ICON International, the Stamford, Conn. corporate barter company. That business was not part of the review. The retailer spent $127.3 million in media in 2013, according to Kantar Media. While there is an international component to Ashley's spending, the bulk of it will occur in the U.S. Zimmerman, a unit of Omnicom Group, had worked as the retailer’s creative and media planning shop since April 2009, and defended the account. Other contenders could not immediately be determined. In March, Arcadia, the Wis.-based chain’s kicked off its agency search, which was managed by Pile + Co. in Boston. The win is the second one for McCann this week, after picking up health insurance provider Cigna. Last month the agency also landed some Reckitt Benckiser assignments while in April McCann was part of the Interpublic creative team that prevailed in Microsoft's global consolidation.
